Yesterday, Volvo reported a strong sales performance for the month of January, thanks in large part to the new XC90 luxury SUV. Sales in the United States topped out at 4,244 for the month, an increase of 11.9 percent over January 2015.
XC90 led all vehicles, selling 2,375 units. The premium utility vehicle is the first model off Volvo's new $11 billion Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), and features a new design language, new powertrain, and a number for world-first safety technologies.
Globally, Volvo Car Group reported sales of 33,761 units, up more than nine percent percent over January 2015.
“This is the seventh consecutive month of double digit growth here in the US,” said Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO of Volvo Car USA. “The XC90 continues to contribute to this growth, and the industry has certainly agreed by awarding it virtually every honor including the 2016 North American Truck of the Year.”
